Stage 1 · Assessment
On court, free, before joining.
Four programmes for juniors and adults, all grouped by playing standard.
Grouping by age is convenient for timetables and bad for players. We assess and group by standard, so a session is challenging without being demoralising — and we will move a player up or down when the group stops fitting them, which is a conversation we have with the parent honestly.
On court, free, before joining.
By standard, not birth year.
Technique, movement and decisions.
Moved groups when it is right.
Identified honestly, often not the obvious one.
Per block of lessons.
Tested in points, not just drills.
Before moving to the next thing.
Private lessons work when they have a single focus — a serve that breaks down under pressure, a backhand that cannot be hit on the run. Trying to fix everything in an hour fixes nothing, so we pick one thing and work on it until it holds in a match.
Adults starting at forty are our most common new players and the most likely to be put off by a group that is beyond them. Beginner sessions are genuinely for beginners, and we would rather you enjoyed a session at the right level than survived one at the wrong one.
Honestly, with no embarrassment.
Beginner means beginner.
At the pace that suits the group.
Match play when you want it.
Supervised, then reviewed.
Tournaments that suit the level.
Tactical, not just technical.
Including where the ceiling is.
Players improve through matches more than through drills, so match play is supervised and reviewed. On the bigger questions — college tennis, rankings, going further — we give parents an honest assessment rather than the one that sells another programme. Nobody here promises a scholarship.
A free on-court assessment, and an honest view of the right level.
